The World Financial Center

Creating Innovative Retail Solutions

In the late '70s Victor M. Menkin met a former banker from Boston who had partnered with a local baker to develop a bakery concept. They named this concept Au Bon Pain (ABP). Mr. Menkin developed a strong connection with ABP as they grew their presence in New York City.

While working for Olympia & York (then the largest privately held real estate development company in the world), Mr. Menkin was heavily involved in the planning, development and leasing of the retail component of the World Financial Center (WFC), a 6 million square foot mixed use commercial complex in lower Manhattan. During construction of 1 WFC, Mr. Menkin approached his friend at ABP. With Mr. Menkin's guidance, ABP became the first retail tenant within the project. ABP as well as many of the retailers which Mr. Menkin introduced to WFC continue to operate at WFC to this day.
